Why are t-shirts so comfortable?

Comfortable T-Shirts

When it comes to creature comforts, there’s a few things that give us that warm, fuzzy feeling: hot chocolates with marshmallows, freshly washed linen bed sheets, and a cotton tee. At By.Bel, we can’t think of a better feeling than slipping into our fave relaxed fit t-shirt. Why? Because the humble tee is often an extension of our personality, can be thrown on with little thought, and arguably is the most comfortable item of clothing we own. What’s not to love?

Depending on how you wear it, a tee can be high fashion or streetwear, bold or minimalist, anarchist or neutral. There’s a reason why they’re an iconic staple in Australian fashion. For the no fuss fashion-forward individual, a t-shirt is a classic.

However, not all tees are cut from the same cloth.

Are the most comfortable t-shirts made from cotton?

When it comes to t-shirt shopping, two factors stand out: comfort and style. When you’ve discovered a design that catches your eye, half the job is done. But how does the tee feel against your skin? How does it sit? That’s why it’s so important to choose the right fabric.

While there’s plenty of choices when it comes to making a t-shirt – such as linen, rayon, and polyester – we think that cotton makes the best material. Here’s why:

  • Comfortable: Cotton fabric is super soft and light on the skin. Even if you tuck it into your pants or skirt, its design is made to crinkle around you and not smother and stifle.
  • For all-seasons: Regardless of the temperature, there’s no better feeling than wearing a cotton tee. In the summer, it is breathable and in the colder months, it provides insulation.
  • Less toxic: As a natural fibre, cotton isn’t treated with chemicals. Unlike polyester, which can contain terephthalic acid, cotton is free from compounds like these, which can be absorbed into the skin (we don’t need to tell you that this is bad!)
  • Long-lasting: Cotton doesn’t tear easily and will hold up well in even the strongest washing cycle without fraying threads or tearing material. There’s a reason why ‘cotton’ has its own setting on washing machines – your tee will unaffected by a high-speed spin setting and will come out as good as new.
  • Hypoallergenic: Cotton will rarely cause allergic reactions and can even complement sensitive skin. In fact, cotton is used in medical products, like bandages and gauze strips.
  • When it comes to fabrics, none come close to cotton. Discover the perfect blend of soft, premium quality and durability in our collection of tees. After all, we know that finding the perfect t-shirt can be a mission. With By Bel, it’s never been simpler.
